Lebanon’s Ministry of Education announced that public schools will operate on a four-day teaching week for the upcoming academic year, a move aimed at streamlining school schedules and supporting teachers and administrators.
The announcement came after Education Minister Reema Karami chaired an administrative meeting with the ministry's Director General Fadi Yarak and directors of Education, Guidance, and Counseling to review preparations for the new school year.
Speaking following a meeting with President Joseph Aoun on Wednesday, Karami explained that maintaining a four-day week is a continuation of last year’s measure, hoping that this will be the final year under this arrangement.
She added that class periods will be set at 50 minutes.
The minister also confirmed that work is ongoing to readjust teachers’ salaries, with a plan in place to address these issues.
Separately, Father Youssef Nasr, General Coordinator of the Union of Private Educational Institutions in Lebanon and the Secretary-General of Lebanon's Catholic Schools, clarified that the ministry’s decision applies only to public schools. Each private school may choose to adopt different schedules based on its own circumstances.
