Lebanon and Deficient Sovereignty
In a televised interview, Lebanese Prime Minister Nawaf Salam sought to outline a vision for bringing the state back into the sovereignty equation and breaking the link between the logic of the state and the logic of force. He insisted that decisions of war and peace must be made by the government alone, and that the era of foreign guardianship is over. Salameh Denies Money Transfer Allegations
Central Bank Governor Riad Salameh on Monday denied media accusations claiming that he, his brother, and an assistant have transferred $400 million to Swiss banks.
“The governor of the BDL stresses that all the news and figures circulating in some media and on social media are exaggerated and have nothing to with reality,” said a statement issued by BDL.
“These news systematically aim to tarnish the image of the Central Bank and its governor,” said a statement issued by BDL.
