Customer Complaints Expose Unethical Practices and Harsh Penalties at Prominent Bank

Kataeb.org website received complaints from customers of a bank, whose owner gained notoriety for his connections with groups in the Achrafieh area and for hosting lavish banquets for an American candidate. The complaints focused on the bank's policy, which imposes a penalty of more than 70% of the value of any overdue bill, even if delayed by just one hour.

In one case, a citizen who was two days late in paying a home loan bill worth 1,700,000 Lebanese pounds was shocked to find that the penalty amounted to over 800,000 Lebanese pounds, more than 50% of the bill's value.  This penalty is unprecedented and in violation of both local and international laws.

This raises the question of how these banks are evading the law and continuing to implement unacceptable policies that ultimately harm the citizen. It was also noted that this particular bank uses an unprofessional, unethical communication style with its clients, including insults, threats, and intimidation.
