Cowell Calls for Urgent Reforms to Secure Deal with the International Monetary Fund

British ambassador to Lebanon Hamish Cowell on Tuesday met with Caretaker Prime Minister Najib Mikati.

"We underlined the importance of strengthening the long-term bilateral relations between both countries," Cowell said after the meeting, confirming the United Kingdom’s continuous commitment to support the Lebanese army and the most vulnerable communities in Lebanon.

"The UK wants to see stability, prosperity and security in Lebanon," he noted.

"This is why I urged the authorities to carry out urgent reforms in a bid to secure a deal with the International Monetary Fund. This is necessary to put Lebanon on the path of recovery, to restore the confidence of businessmen and investors and to address the serious difficulties facing the Lebanese people," he concluded.
