Contingency Plans in Place to Evacuate Canadians from Lebanon, Says Top Military Commander

Canada’s top military commander has confirmed that contingency evacuation plans are in place to evacuate approximately 20,000 Canadians from Lebanon in the event of a full-scale conflict between Israel and Hezbollah. These plans are significantly reliant on support from allied forces.

General Wayne Eyre, the Chief of the Defense Staff, discussed these preparations during a comprehensive interview with CBC News on Wednesday, ahead of his retirement next month.

"We can't do it alone," General Wayne Eyre, the Chief of the Defense Staff, said in an interview with CBC News on Wednesday. "This will be very much a coalition effort, and we are closely coordinated with our allies."

He emphasized that while Global Affairs Canada is leading the Canadian government’s response plan, allied military leaders, who would be responsible for executing the evacuation, convened on Tuesday to assess available resources and ensure the operation could be conducted safely.
