The world's celebrities might have made, collectively, less than they did in 2019 as the pandemic shuttered businesses, cinemas and ground travel to a halt ... but plenty of names will still manage to leave 2020 all the richer.
Kylie Jenner has been named this year's highest-paid celebrity in the world, according to Forbes magazine's annual rich list.
The reality TV star and beauty entrepreneur made an estimated $590 million (Dh2.16 billion), more than double the amount of her closest wealthy peer.
Jenner, 23, raked in an estimated $540m pre-tax alone after selling a 51 per cent stake in her cosmetics firm, Kylie Cosmetics, to beauty giant Coty in January.
However, Forbes, which declared Jenner the world's youngest "self-made" billionaire in March 2019, rescinded her billionaire status in May, accusing the star of embellishing the size and success of her business in paperwork.
Her brother-in-law, rapper and designer Kanye West, 43, came in second place in Forbes' list, amassing $170m, predominantly thanks to his Yeezy sneakers deal with Adidas. In fact, Forbes officially declared the rapper and fashion mogul a billionaire for the first time this year.
The list, which compiles the 100 highest-paid celebrities in the world, noted that this year, celebrities earned a combined $6.1bn before taxes and fees, which is a $200m drop from the year before.
Jenner was the only woman in this year's top 10, which also includes footballers Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi, tennis ace Roger Federer and actor Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson.
