The suspension of meetings of the ceasefire monitoring committee, known as the “mechanism,” is being driven mainly by fast-moving regional developments, a diplomatic source told Nidaa Al-Watan, suggesting that Lebanon’s turn in a broader geopolitical reshuffle may be drawing closer.
According to the source, the situation in Syria is heading toward a decisive outcome in favor of a unified state. At the same time, the Gaza file is shifting onto an investment and reconstruction track led by a Peace Council chaired by U.S. President Donald Trump. In parallel, the Iranian file is moving toward what the source described as “forced adaptation,” in line with a global approach being steered by Washington.
“In this context, the Lebanese file has not yet reached its moment,” the source said. “But it’s getting close. When the zero hour strikes, things will move quickly and in a positive direction, squarely in favor of the state-building project. Those who resist or obstruct a solution will find themselves compelled to go along, without room for objection.”
In a related development, Nidaa Al-Watan reported that Lebanon’s long-awaited National Security Strategy is nearing completion. The strategy, which President Joseph Aoun pledged to deliver in his inaugural address and which was later incorporated into the government’s policy statement, is being prepared by the Lebanese Army through a specialized committee drawing on a broad range of expertise.
According to the report, the strategy is now being finalized, marking a significant step toward defining a coherent national security framework at a time of shifting regional dynamics and persistent internal challenges.
