Cabinet to Discuss Army’s Weapons Control Plan Next Week

Lebanon’s Cabinet will convene on Friday, September 5, to review the army’s plan for enforcing the State’s exclusive control over weapons, the government said.

The session, scheduled for 3:00 p.m. at the Presidential Palace, will focus on the implementation blueprint prepared by the Lebanese Armed Forces in line with Cabinet Resolution No. 1 of 2025, which mandates disarmament of groups outside State authority.

The decision comes amid renewed political momentum to end the presence of armed militias in Lebanon and consolidate the State’s sovereignty. The plan, drafted by the army, is expected to outline practical steps for disarmament, enforcement mechanisms, and security arrangements across the country.
