The written and oral exams for the brevet and baccalaureate have been canceled in several countries in the Near and Middle East, including Lebanon, as well as in Mali "in order to take into account the particular situations in these countries," the French national education ministry announced on Tuesday.
Candidates enrolled in accredited French institutions in Lebanon, Bahrain, the United Arab Emirates, Iraq, Iran, Israel, Kuwait, Qatar and Mali, as well as those registered in regulated classes through the National Center for Distance Education (Cned), "will be awarded their annual average in the relevant subjects," the statement specified. This measure, related to the war in the Middle East and the critical security situation in Mali, concerns the written tests for the national brevet diploma, the anticipated French exams [both written and oral], as well as mathematics in the general and technological baccalaureate, along with the specialty and philosophy exams and the grand oral in the final year of high school. "Candidates taking the exams as independent candidates may sit for the replacement session scheduled for September 2026," for both the brevet and the baccalaureate, the ministry said.
Adaptation measures may also be decided in other countries, up to 15 days before the start of the exams, if local conditions do not allow them to take place, particularly if exam centers are closed, the ministry added.
The general and technological baccalaureate will start on June 11 with the anticipated written French exam for 11th graders, followed the next day by the new anticipated written mathematics exam. The final year exams will begin on Monday, June 15, with philosophy, before the specialty exams take place from June 16 to 18 and the grand oral from June 22 onward. The brevet will take place on June 26, 29, and 30.
