Break in Ain el-Helweh with New Rounds to Begin Soon

Efforts made in the past few hours have succeded in establishing a ceasefire in Ain el-Helweh refugee camp, located in southern Lebanon, after around 6 days of intense clashes between Fatah and extremist Islamic groups.

The fight resulted in 12 deaths and over 65 injuries.

Conflicting parties needed to take a break to regroup and prepare for new rounds of fighting.

A Fatah official in Ain el-Helweh indicated to Asharq Al-Awsat newspaper, "The failure to hand over the killers of Palestinian National Security Commander in the Saida region, Brigadier General Abu Ashraf Al-Armoushi, will automatically signify a resurgence of military action."

He mentioned that certain parties are attempting to marginalize the influence of Fatah which has ensured the stability of camps in Lebanon for decades. He indicated that any leniency today will lead to the expansion of the role and size of extremist groups which won't be tolerated.

He added, "The is a possibility that the events are premeditated and linked to Lebanese and regional issues. There are parties who are funding these groups and providing them with logistical support, arms, and ammunition."

It is important to note that damages have so far exceeded 15 million dollars.
