Bou Saab: Demarcation File Efforts Are Ongoing, Response Awaited From Supreme Judicial Council on Beirut Blast

Deputy Parliament Speaker Elias Bou Saab on Thursday after meeting with President Michel Aoun spoke about the most recent developments with respect to the demarcation file.

He emphasized that the effort was ongoing and had not stopped, and the US mediator Amos Hochstein was continuing his efforts in light of the most recent meeting that had taken place in Baabda.

Bou Saab said that Israel's attack on Gaza had delayed the border demarcation file.

He added that U.S. mediator Amos Hochstein has only visited Israel the day he left Beirut.

"We are following up with him on the matter. Now that Hochstein has been informed of Lebanon's maritime border position, Israel must respond,” he affirmed.

Regarding the investigation into Beirut Port Blast, Bou Saab stressed that efforts were ongoing.

“The Supreme Judicial Council is expected to respond between today and tomorrow, and that response will specify the further step,” he said

In answer to a query regarding the status of negotiations with the IMF, he said: "There are still many pending laws that need to be adopted in the Parliament, notably the budget, which is awaiting the submission of the government's figures to the Finance Committee as well as the banking secrecy bill. The banking secrecy law will be signed, and the president of the Republic oversaw its research.

Not all of the demands made by the IMF should be imposed, he said, adding that some of them are negotiable.
