Berri Drops Dialogue Precondition for Presidential Election, Says Bou Saab

Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri is no longer insisting on dialogue as a precondition for the presidential election, his deputy Elias Bou Saab announced on Wednesday.

Speaking after meeting with Berri along with MPs Ibrahim Kanaan, Alain Aoun, Simon Abi Ramia, Michel Daher, and Neemat Frem, Bou Saab noted that the discussions focused on how to achieve a ceasefire based on the previously proposed initiative, which is mainly linked to the implementation of Resolution 1701.

Bou Saab emphasized that Lebanon is committed to a ceasefire and preventing the expansion of the war, stating that the "displaced citizens cannot return to their homes without a diplomatic solution."

"Everyone must take responsibility. A new president cannot be elected through imposition but rather through consensus," he pointed out.
