Israeli Occupation and an Armed Hezbollah Are Not Sustainable for Lebanon
Lebanon’s government is facing mounting challenges. It is trying to balance the demands of the US to disarm Hezbollah, a militia and political party controlling much of the country, against those of Iran, Hezbollah’s main sponsor, to do no such thing. For a government that took power only recently after years of political vacuum, as well as for the country as a whole, this is a critical test of sovereignty.

The Lebanese government’s decision last Thursday to endorse the objectives of a US-drafted plan provoked a negative response from Hezbollah and, to an extent, its ally within the Shiite community, the Amal Movement. Berri: Christmas Will Remain a Birth of Great Joy, Hope
House Speaker Nabih Berri said on Christmas Eve: “Despite the magnitude of the pain and the widening of the wound, from the Church of the Nativity in Bethlehem to the Baptist Church in the Gaza Strip and all of the Palestinian geography...Christmas will remain a birth of great joy, hope, and salvation, and a testimony to just and truth from Palestine, the land of redemption, to all parts of the globe.”
Berri expressed his well-wishes to the Lebanese, particularly members of the Christian sects, on "the birth of the Messenger of love, good words, and the radiance of hope."
