For the first time in many years, Beirut is present at the negotiating table as a sovereign state, rather than a battleground for geopolitical competition. Caretaker Minister of Labor Mustafa Bayram announced, following the Index Committee’s meeting on Friday, that it has been agreed to increase the private sector’s salaries by LBP 1.9 million and to raise the daily transport allowance to LBP 125,000.
He added that the public and private school grants had been also doubled; saying that they will be paid next September.
Bayram vowed to press for increasing the public sector’s wages and allowances.
