Families of the victims of the Aug. 4, 2020 Beirut port explosion gathered Thursday morning in front of the Justice Palace in Adlieh, for the second day in a row, decrying the appointment of an alternate investigative judge in the Beirut blast probe.
Earlier on Wednesday morning, the family members organized a sit-in in front of the Justice Palace to protest against the decision of the Higher Judicial Council.
On Wednesday evening, the families of the victims protested in front of caretaker Justice Minister Henri Khoury's apartment in Hazmieh. The families were seen raising their victims’ images and demanding to meet with the Minister to inform him about their perspective in this regard.
“We will have a series of escalatoions in this framework," protestors emphasized.
“This is the second confrontation with the minister of justice on this subject. He is a "minister by chance" and we will hold him to account in line with his level of understanding,” William Noun, brother of martyr Joe Noun, said in an interview with Voice of Lebanon 100.5 when asked about the Minister of Justice after accusing victims' families with politicization .
“The Higher Judicial Council is solely capable of solving this issue and we ask it to carry out formations. The incident yesterday brought the case to the attention of the public, and we are committed to the judicial investigation. We will resume our movements,” Noun added.
