The song 'Blinding Lights' by The Weeknd remains as popular as ever, with the song having now spent an 88th consecutive week on the Billboard Hot 100 list. That breaks the record of 87 weeks previous set by Imagine Dragons' 'Radioactive'.
No other song, apart from those two, had ever spent more than 80 weeks inside the top 100 on the charts. With 'Blinding Lights' still as high as 18th position, the record could be extended well beyond 88 weeks.
As well as smashing this record, the hit also broke records for the most weeks inside the Billboard Hot 100 top five (43 weeks) , top 10 (57 weeks), top 20 (79 weeks) and top 40 (84 weeks).
The Weeknd was the headline act for the Super Bowl halftime show in 2020, which is a main reason for his songs becoming so popular and well-known.
Thankful for the success he is enjoying, the singer took to social media to send a message to all those who have enjoyed the song.
"Forever grateful to be able to experiment with sounds, try new things with my voice and create music with the people I truly love and respect," he wrote on Instagram.
"For the last decade every song has been a journey and to be able to continue this journey has been nothing short of a blessing. It's the only gift I could ever ask for.
"I'll be doing it for as long as I can breathe. I love my fans and wouldn't be here without you.
"It's a big day for 'Blinding Lights'."
