A sequel to the movie The Passion of the Christ is in the making which will tell the story of Jesus’ resurrection, screenwriter Randall Wallace told The Hollywood Reporter.

The movie is being made by Wallace and Mel Gibson to work on the screenplay.

“I always wanted to tell this story. The Passion is the beginning and there’s a lot more to tell,” Wallace said.

“The evangelical community considers The Passion the biggest movie ever out of Hollywood, and they kept telling us that they think a sequel will be even bigger,” Wallace stated, explaining the role the Christian community had in influencing their decision.

There is no schedule for production or planned release date set yet.

The previous movie The Passion of the Christ, directed by Gibson and starring Jim Caviezel as Jesus Christ, was nominated for three Oscars in 2015 and earned more than US$600 million, making it the highest grossing religious film of all time.
