Egypt Demands Halt of Pharaoh Sculpture Auction

Egypt’s Foreign Ministry on Monday said it is trying to stop an auction of a 3,000-year-old stone sculpture of Tutankhamun at Christie’s in London, demanding the auction house to provide documents proving the artifact's ownership.

Egypt has also asked the British authorities and the U.N. culture and education agency to halt the sale, said a statement issued by the Foreign Ministry.

The statue is set to set to go under the hammer in July, with an expected price of more than $5 million.
