The Lebanese Army announced on Monday that it had arrested 35 individuals involved in the celebratory gunfire that erupted in northern Lebanon and Akkar following the announcement of municipal election results. The random gunfire resulted in several civilian casualties.
In a statement, the Army Command said it carried out raids across the two regions, assisted by intelligence units, detaining the suspects and confiscating firearms and ammunition. The military confirmed that all detainees are being questioned under the supervision of the judiciary.
The Army also assured the public that efforts are underway to apprehend the remaining individuals responsible for the gunfire.
"We are making every effort to apprehend the remaining individuals responsible for these acts of violence," the military statement said.
Moreover, the Lebanese Army condemned the practice of celebratory gunfire, urging citizens to refrain from such dangerous behavior. The military stressed that firing weapons recklessly puts lives at risk and carries significant legal consequences for those involved.
