Maronite Patriarch Mar Bechara Boutros Al-Rahi called Wednesday for an international conference on Lebanon after officials failed to hold a dialogue.

"Officials in Lebanon refuse to sit together at a dialogue table because their private interests are more important than the public interest," Al-Rahi said during a conference titled "A Fresh Vision for Lebanon: A Decentralized and Neutral Civil State".

"If we cannot hold a dialogue to discuss our disagreements, then what will we discuss?" he asked.

Al-Rahi also suggested that officials should embrace the "Identity and Sovereignty Meeting Document" with sincerity, willpower, and without personal interests, but with love for the country and the Lebanese people.

The Patriarch believed that officials were not concerned about the presidential vacuum and the people’s poverty.
