Caretaker Prime Minister, Najib Mikati, on Tuesday presided over a cabinet session at the Grand Serail, after which Caretaker Information Minister, Ziad Makary, announced the outcomes.
During the session, Mikati emphasized the significance of unity among Lebanon's diverse communities, especially during challenging times, stressing the responsibility of all Lebanese to uphold the country's civilized image and rebuild it. He underscored the urgency of completing constitutional institutions, notably the election of a new president, despite internal disagreements.
Mikati acknowledged international efforts towards stability, particularly from the moderation bloc and the Quintet Committee, urging swift action to fulfill constitutional obligations. He highlighted the detrimental impact of political crises on Lebanon's economy and stability, affirming the government's commitment to prevent further deterioration and initiate necessary reforms.
Addressing the banking sector restructuring and reform laws, Mikati acknowledged the political complexities hindering progress. He reiterated the government's readiness for reforms but cautioned against political factions aiming to destabilize the state.
Concerning internal issues, Mikati condemned attempts to escalate disputes within the customs council to the ministerial level, urging objectivity and national unity in addressing such matters, particularly those with sectarian undertones.
In conclusion, Mikati called for reflection on Lebanon's past prosperity, current challenges, and collective efforts to rebuild the nation despite adversities, emphasizing national unity as the cornerstone of strength.
Minister Makary finally echoed Mikati's sentiments, urging impartiality and rationality in addressing challenges and avoiding sectarian exploitation.
