Judge Bitar Postpones Investigation Sessions Scheduled For February

Judicial investigator into Beirut Port blast, Judge Tarek Bitar, on Monday decided to postpone the investigation sessions set during the month of February “in view of the new circumstances related to decisions issued by the Public Prosecutor at the Court of Cassation, and in a bid to preserve the integrity and smooth conduct of the ongoing investigation.”

Bitar also said he is ready to be held accountable if it is proven that he usurped power.

“There are lawsuits that have been filed against me accusing me of power usurpation,” he noted.

“If it is proven that I have usurped power, then I must be held accountable; if not, then the investigations must continue,” he stressed in remarks to reporters.
